How Much Does Moving Cost?

Moving to a new home or office often comes with a lot of questions, but one of the biggest concerns is usually the cost. Basic Pricing Structure

Box N Haul Moving charges $80 per hour per mover. This means the total cost depends on how many movers you hire and how long the move takes. For example, if you hire two movers for 4 hours, the labor cost would be:

2 movers × 4 hours × $80 = $640

In addition to the hourly rate, there is a $200 truck fee per truck (for moves 25 miles or less). This fee covers the use of the moving truck, fuel, and basic equipment needed for the move. The truck fee is a flat rate regardless of the move’s length or size. If you are moving further than 25 miles, we charge $2.50 per additional mile.

What This Means for Your Budget

If you have a 1 bedroom apartment, moving 10 miles, and only need two movers for 4 hours, your cost would be:

  • Labor: 2 × 4 × $80 = $640
  • Truck fee: $200
  • Total: $840

For a larger home requiring four movers for 8 hours and 2 trucks:

  • Labor: 4 × 8 × $80 = $2,560
  • Truck fee: $400
  • Total: $2,960

Knowing these numbers helps you estimate your moving budget based on your home size and how many movers you think you’ll need. Ready to estimate your move? Check out our moving calculator to get a quick idea of what your move might cost.

Additional Costs for Packing Supplies

Box N Haul Moving offers add-ons like mattress bags and TV boxes. These items protect your belongings during the move. Here are the costs:

  • Mattress bags cost $15 each.
  • TV boxes cost $20 each.

If you have 2 mattresses and 3 TVs it would cost:

  • 2 mattress bags × $15 = $30
  • 3 TV boxes × $20 = $60
  • Total cost: $90

Why Add These Supplies?

Mattress bags protect against dirt, moisture, and damage during transport. TV boxes provide extra cushioning and prevent screen damage. If you want to keep your items safe, these supplies are a smart investment.

How to Estimate Your Total Moving Cost

To get a clear picture of your total moving cost with Box N Haul Moving, follow these steps:

  1. Calculate labor cost. Estimate the number of movers and hours needed. Multiply by $80 per hour per mover. Not sure how many movers or hours it will take? Get in contact with us and we can set up an in-home consultation.
  2. Add the truck fee. Include the flat $200 truck fee.
  3. Include packing supplies. Count how many mattress bags and TV boxes you need and multiply by $15 & $20 respectively.

Example Estimate

Imagine moving a three-bedroom home with four movers for 8 hours, 2 trucks, plus 3 mattresses and 2 TVs:

  • Labor: 4 × 8 × $80 = $2,560
  • Truck fee: $400
  • Mattress bags: 3 × $15 = $45
  • TV box: 2 × $20 = $40
  • Total estimated cost: $3,045

Tips to Save on Moving Costs

Have us just move the heavy stuff.

We’re happy to move everything for you, but a great way to save money is to have us handle just the heavy items. Moving fewer boxes and small items can significantly reduce the overall cost of your move.

Pack yourself when possible.

Doing your own packing saves time for movers and reduces labor hours.

Be packed before the movers arrive.

Having everything packed before we arrive saves a lot of time.

Declutter before moving.

The fewer items you move, the cheaper your move will be. Consider donating, selling, or disposing of items you no longer need before moving day.

Disassemble furniture in advance.

We are happy to disassemble furniture, but you can save a lot of time doing it yourself. If beds, tables, or desks are already disassembled, it can save valuable time during the move.

You probably have noticed a theme for saving money — time!

What to Expect on Moving Day

Box N Haul Moving’s pricing is straightforward, but the actual cost depends on how smoothly the move goes. Movers work efficiently, but unexpected delays like traffic or extra heavy items can increase hours. Being prepared and organized helps keep costs down.

Final Thoughts on Moving Costs

Moving costs can vary depending on the size of your home, the distance of the move, and what you want moved. The good news is that with transparent pricing and a little planning, it is easy to get a clear idea of what your move will cost.

At Box N Haul Moving, we believe in keeping things simple and straightforward so there are no surprises. If you would like a more accurate estimate, we are always happy to schedule an in-home consultation to walk through your move and answer any questions you may have.
